The automation of the process from goods picking and buffer storage consolidation makes it easier to meet customer demand. The Kardex customer Hella is a logistics service provider with many years of experience in the automotive industry. You ship more than 2,000 orders to customers worldwide every day and discover that. the storage of these orders takes up a lot of space until the inventory is dispatched. They traditionally used a manual process in which boxes were loaded onto pallets and stored until they were ready for use, but optimization for leaner processes was required, so they looked for ways to improve ergonomics, reduce sorting and search times, and minimize walking distances .

They opted for a six meter high Kardex Vertical Buffer Module LR 35 as this was the most efficient and economical solution to meet all of their requirements now and at the same time enable future growth. The LR35 serves as a consolidation buffer for ready-to-ship customer orders and is now able to automatically transport boxes of different sizes with conveyor technology.

When a truck arrives, a complete call-up list for the corresponding boxes starts. The boxes are pre-sorted and sorted according to size and weight and delivered through two access openings. Employees scan the boxes and move them on a pallet. „With the LR 35, we were able to save 80% storage space and no longer have any capacity restrictions,“ says Raphael Heimann, project manager for intralogistics at Hella Distribution GmbH.
